History
Kuopion klassillinen lukio (secondary high school, later referred to as Klassikka) is the successor of Viipurin klassillinen lyseo. After numerous phases the school building, designed by architect Toivo Korhonen, was completed in 1965 and it was completely renovated in 2005.
General information
There are about 560 students in the school.
Klassikka has two important missions that are closely intertwined. In addition to the standard secondary school there is the sports secondary school. A student in the sports secondary school can combine his academic studies with competitive sports. These include e.g. ski jumping, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming and track & field.

The goals of the school
In addition to the academic objectives, the central task of Klassikka is to support and guide students to become independent and responsible citizens. Furthermore, the school’s aim is to help students grow as individuals able to cope with the requirements and challenges of the changing world.
Studying
Besides the compulsory subjects, the school offers a variety of optional courses including e.g Latin. The students of all secondary schools in Kuopio are welcome to take courses offered by the other secondary schools in the area.
Klassikka is a forerunner in developing, implementing and testing new educational methods and technology. All the classrooms are equipped with the latest technology to record lessons for those absent.
